UPDATE: Lakewood Child Endangerment Warning

UPDATE:

From: ALERTNOW Message from Lakewood City SD <noreply@alertnow.com>
Date: Thu, Dec 19, 2013 at 9:31 AM
Subject: Child Endangerment Update

After further investigation by the school district and the Lakewood Police Department, it has been determined that the report earlier by a Roosevelt Elementary parent that her children had been approached by a man in a pickup truck on their walk home from school on Dec. 16 was unfounded. No children were ever in danger nor was there a suspicious person in a black pickup truck.

While the district regrets causing any alarm among our parents and community, district officials felt it was important to let parents know what was thought to be accurate at the time and that it was best to err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our students.

On Monday, December 16, two of our Roosevelt students were approached by a driver in a black pickup truck on their short walk home from school. The driver offered a ride to the students, but they refused and the truck drove off. The district is working with the Lakewood Police regarding the incident.

There is no reason to fear for your child’s safety walking to or from school, but it is always prudent to be aware of possible dangers and of those who may want to do harm to our students. Please report any suspicious behavior you or your child see to the Lakewood Police Department.

Thank you for your cooperation.
